Tren Wickstrom was born and raised in North Seattle and graduated from Ingraham High School. He attended the University of Washington and the University of Stockholm, Sweden, graduating with honors from lthe University of Washington. Post-graduation, Tren attended the Goethe Institute in Kochel-am-See, Germany, and worked in Germany, Norway, and Sweden, becoming conversant in those languages.

Tren has been a commercial fisherman since 1974, graduating from the Kildall Navigation School and receiving his Mate's license in 1978. He worked and skippered for crabbers and trawlers in the Bering Sea for seven years. In addition to his substantial maritime and fishing law practice, Tren remains personally involved in the fishing industry, having owned and operated a Bristol Bay salmon gillnetter since 1981.

Tren graduated from University of Washington School of Law. He subsequently practice maritime insurance defense in downtown Seattle and independently investigated marine casualties for underwriters. Tren has been with Mullavey, Prout, Grenley and Foe, LLP, since 1990. Tren's practice concentrates on fishing, fishing rights, and maritime matters, including the related administrative practice; business and commercial law; and construction law.
